Our Stories - The Micro-histories of Ordinary People Behind Objects

Yinuo Pan

When objects become a person's possessions, they bear the stories of their owner—tales of one's existence in the world and life lived here over time. The history we study often centres on the exceptional figures of the past, while the ordinary people of every era see their names forgotten and their stories drowned by time. Here, I wish to begin with ordinary objects, to recount the stories that may lie hidden behind them, and to unearth the tales belonging to ordinary people. These stories, I call them ‘micro-histories’.
