Yining Wang’s research focuses on the relationship between humans and environments, exploring the life, memory, and disappearance of cities. She centers her practice on the concept of “Lost City,” using publications, moving image, and sound to investigate urban formation, development, and demise. She treats the loss of cities as a metaphor for life and extends this to functionalist urban planning, collective urban loss, and the life of the abstract concept of “city.” Yining Wang produces multiple publications, combining texts, archives and symbols, while using image and sound to convey cities’ “emotion” and “breath,” examining urban existence, fragility, and human–city relations.
