Free Practice of the city

This work uses a miniature city model to reveal how urban architectural rules invisibly shape human physical behavior and the scope of freedom.

Skateboards, as a symbol of "defying gravity," are used to traverse, collide, or float within the urban order.

The work explores how the regularity of urban architecture shapes, restricts, or suppresses human behavior, then uses the "anti-order" nature of skateboard culture as a starting point to decipher it, simulating a "regulated city" on a microscale, and how skaters find gaps to fly within these rules—a "small-scale anti-architectural experiment," or a "free practice in the city."
