Adversarial design: Training for perceptual inertia
Wenshengdi Zhang
This design research investigates how the “attention economy” shapes contemporary perceptual habits, leading to a mode of “scanning viewing.” Originating from a personal sense of perceptual disconnection, the project evolves into a critical design inquiry addressing a universal social condition. Through theoretical analysis, artistic references, and experimental practice — particularly the Perception Repair Box — it explores how multisensory engagement can restore depth, slowness, and awareness in human perception within the digital age.
