The work “Unpicking, Flattening and Reassembling,” created by Somin Yu, deconstructs Western discarded clothes along their seams and reconstructs them using Korean traditional patchwork (jogakbo). By transforming three-dimensional Western tailoring into a flat geometric composition, the work critiques the colonial hierarchy of form and body embedded in fashion. The process exposes traces, folds, and excess as aesthetic and political gestures, proposing a decolonial practice that restores relational and non-Western sensibilities through material reconfiguration and translation between Western structure and Korean flatness.
