Japanese animation, which accounts for more than half of the most popular animated works among Chinese teenagers, has deeply shaped the visual imagination of my generation. Along with my study of film, it has influenced how I observe and interpret images as a designer. However, our attraction to visual storytelling is not an individual choice, but one constructed within social and cultural frameworks (McGray, 2002). In my paintings, I reconstruct fragmented memories and invite viewers to reflect: can we move from being passive cultural consumers to active storytellers?
