Labor under
Transparency
Jingyu Si
My project focuses on "data labor," visualizing people's everyday actions when using their phones. I hope this work will prompt reflection: our lives now rely on the convenience brought by mobile phones and apps, but have you ever considered that every time you use your phone, you are producing data for the platform without compensation? "Labor Under Transparency" is a long installation using cling film as its medium, expressing how transparent interfaces conceal invisible labor. The entire scroll unfolds in a narrative structure, presenting the individual's transformation from a "happy user" to an "unconscious laborer."
