EXPANDED PRACTICE

Echoes in Dancing Nature

Jiayi Yao

Jiayi's research contemplates nature, confined by modernity's conceptual limits, through the lens of Chinese classical dance. She extracts urban practices where humans and nature emerge as hybrid entities, challenging the perception of nature as mere scenery. By interrogating the dance's natural interpretations and inherent philosophy, she outlines a new choreographic practice within an "artificial ecology." This practice employs visual technology and movement guidance to foster dialogue with virtual natural elements, exploring a shared identity as hybrids. The project cultivates mindful body-environment dialogue, offering a meditative urban practice and a fresh perspective for reconnecting with nature through this ancient, kinetic art.
