This project explores the cultural translation of traditional
Chinese medicine(TCM) between the UK and China, examining how its visual and
conceptual identity evolves when entering Western consumer culture. By
repackaging everyday British vegetables using the visual language of Chinese
medicine and reintroducing these products to the market, the project reveals
how health credibility is reshaped through symbols, labels, and cultural
frameworks.
This intervention highlights the challenges faced by TCM in
cross-cultural communication and prompts audiences to reflect on how design
influences their perceptions of health.
