Whose Time Is It
Chenping Dong
This project takes the structural marginalization of female deities in traditional Chinese temples as its starting point to explore the disciplinary impact of motherhood on contemporary women's sense of time. Interviews with women aged 25-35 reveal that becoming a mother often means the fragmentation and surrender of personal time, with the pace of life dominated by the needs of others and social structures. Through visual installations and spatial construction, the project transforms this "defined experience of time" into a concrete expression, echoing the tension between identity, role, and self-belonging, and prompting reflection on women's sovereignty over time.
